Preread reads a calendar and an inbox. Here is exactly what that means.

Preread is operated by Symphony Works LLC. Anything unclear on this page is a bug: privacy@preread.net.

01

What Preread reads

You grant these permissions yourself, one screen at a time, and can withdraw them at any moment. The calendar is required; Gmail and Drive are optional and Preread works without them.

  • Calendar · required
    calendar.readonly
Events in the next 7 days, and your past events with the same guests going back a year: title, time, guests, description, links. Read-only: Preread never creates, changes or answers an event.
  • Gmail · optional
    gmail.readonly
Recent threads with the guests of an upcoming meeting, and the thread carrying the invite. No mailbox-wide index is built. Preread's own emails come from preread.net, never from your account.
  • Drive · optional
    drive.readonly
Files shared with or by the guests of an upcoming meeting, and files whose name or text matches it. Contents are read for documents, slides and sheets; anything else is listed by name only.
  • Profile
    openid email profile
Your name, email address and picture: to sign you in, and to know which attendee is you.

Preread also reads public web pages about the companies and people in a meeting, and records the usage of the product itself (page views and events, with an identifier derived from your account id, never your email).

02

What it is used for

One thing: writing the preread for a meeting on your calendar and emailing it to you, with what it was written from. Nothing is read outside that purpose. All-day events, events with nobody else in them, events you declined and titles on your ignore list are skipped, and nothing is fetched for them.

The gathered context is sent to a language model through Google Cloud's Vertex AI to write the preread. It is not used to train any model, by Preread or by a model provider.

03

What is stored, and for how long

Kept while your account exists: prereads and every version of them, the notes written for you alone, the list of sources each version used, the emails Preread sent you, your settings, and your Google refresh token — all encrypted at rest.

Kept for a while: the email, file and calendar content gathered for each meeting, encrypted, until 30 days after the meeting by default. Then the content is purged and only the list of what was used remains.

Never: sold, rented, shared with advertisers or data brokers, or used to train models.

04

Who else touches it

Google Cloud hosts the application, the database and the model calls (us-central1), under Google Cloud's data processing terms.

Google Workspace sends the email, from a preread.net mailbox.

Cloudflare receives mail sent to a Preread address, and keeps it in Cloudflare R2 before Preread reads it.

Google Analytics measures use of the product pages. Pages that need no sign-in load no third-party script at all.

There is no other recipient. Preread will disclose data if the law requires it, and will tell you unless it is forbidden from doing so.

05

Google API Services · Limited Use

Preread's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide and improve the features described on this page, is never sold, never used for advertising, and never read by a human except with your explicit permission for support, or where the law or an investigation into abuse requires it.

06

What other people see

Nothing. A preread is emailed to you and to nobody else. It is written as a message to the other people in the meeting, but it reaches only you; whether it goes any further is yours to decide, by hand.

Someone who appears in a preread and would rather not can write to hello@preread.net.

07

Cookies

Two: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a short-lived cookie that protects the sign-in redirect. Google Analytics sets its own on the product pages. No advertising cookies, ever.

08

What you can do

Stop it in one step. Revoke Preread at myaccount.google.com/permissions and the emails stop immediately, without contacting us.

Get a copy, or have it all deleted. Write to privacy@preread.net and we will export or erase your account and everything in it, and confirm when it is done.
